2-Month Update

Today, we had Baby W’s 2-month check-up — yes, it’s been 9-weeks since he came into the world! He is in great health, and has grown a little more than 2 inches and weighs a whopping 14 pounds! He is smiling, laughing, cooing, and has great neck strength. He really is growing up so fast… He also had to have his first round of immunizations, which includes 4 shots and an oral rotovirus vaccine. The shots weren’t a lot of fun — he was screaming a lot — but I think they are important, so I think it’s totally worth it. He’s also been a bit cranky since we got home, but we are doing lots of cuddling and feeding, which seems to be helping.

I feel like I am adjusting to being a mom, and am loving it! Lewis is beginning to settle into a routine — not really a schedule — but I typically have a general idea of what to expect throughout the day, which is great. He is going a little bit longer between feedings, so I’m getting a touch more sleep — still not enough, but that’s motherhood. LOL… Little man doesn’t love napping during the day, but I always make sure he gets his sleep — it’s so important for his growth and brain development. He also still likes to sleep on me or hubby, which means nap time isn’t very productive unless we are walking (see below for more). At night, Baby W is going about 3 hours between feedings and is sleeping in his co-sleeper without a hitch, so that’s good!

I am also beginning to have a little “me” time. I re-joined the gym and had my first real workout last night — yay! I have also been walking 4-5 miles 5 times a week for the last 6 weeks or so. I put little man in his front carrier, and we either go for a walk outside, or we jump on the treadmill (I am actually blogging while walking with him on the treadmill right now). Walking like this has two great side effects — one is I burn calories and am getting back into shape, and two, it puts Baby W to sleep almost instantly! Talk about a great way to get in shape :). I am happy to report that I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight (still don’t have the same body, but I’m getting there), and have 10 pounds to go to hit my pre-IVF weight. From there, I may try to lose an additional 5-8 pounds to get back to my wedding weight — we’ll see how I feel once I hit my pre-IVF weight. Losing weight hasn’t been super easy — it has come off, but with a lot of work and very healthy eating. Breastfeeding has definitely helped drop the pounds, but I need to work on toning now so I can get back into my clothes.

Finally, I go back to work next week — yikes! There have been a lot of changes, and I am little stressed about going back. On the bright side, I work from home, and we hired a great nanny to help with little man during the day. She is a great fit for our family, and I am sure Baby W will really like her. It will definitely be an adjustment to go back, but it’s important to me to work since I really enjoy what I do.

I promise to post some amazingly cute pictures soon 🙂

Best wishes to all!

Such Sorrow :(

The events at Shady Brook Elementary School in Newtown, CT are just awful. I can’t believe and will never understand such inexplicable  evil. How could someone harm, let alone murder, innocent children? I have been watching the news coverage since the story broke on Friday morning, and I am still in shock. I can’t even begin to imagine the pain of the parents who lost their children, and the irreparable damage done to the innocent babies who survived… No one will ever be able to answer why this evil man went on such a rampage, and in the end, it doesn’t really matter. There will never be an explanation for something so horrific.

For now, we mourn the loss of so many beautiful, young, and innocent lives. My thoughts and prayers are with the community of Newtown. I will also continue to pray that out of this awful event comes real change to gun control and how we care for the mentally unstable.

I am not trying to make a political statement, but am disgusted with any politician who’s this interested in my uterus. I just don’t understand why people use the bible to diminish women’s rights, whether it be the right to take birth control or to take away our reproductive rights.

Not-So-Fertile Girl: Finally a Family

I’m not here to make a political statement to anyone. I have strong opinions based on education, information, and my values. However, politics is a touchy subject, and I don’t want to alienate anyone.

But I can’t let this pass without sharing the information. It’s too important. It’s something I just can’t quite believe is being discussed in a real discussion in America in 2012. But it is.

Vote for who you feel is right, but please, please know who you are or are not voting for and why.

As someone who may have to one day rely on IVF through no fault of my own other than genetics to have children, someone who wants nothing more than anything to be half of a fantastic, loving set of parents, and someone knows that so many of you…

A fun questionairre!

I was tagged in a fun question game by laughingpromises, so here goes…

Here are the rules:

  1. Post the rules.
  2. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post.
  3. Create 11 new questions to ask the people you’ve tagged.
  4. Tag 11 people and link them to your post. (I am going to ignore this one — if you’d like to play, I’d love to hear more about you!)
  5. Let them know you’ve tagged them.

11 Questions

1. What is your favorite thing, or necessary thing, on which to splurge?
My gym membership. I gave it up for a while and tried to just workout at home, but I missed the seriousness of the gym. Plus, I love the selection of machines, all the weights, and the competition of working out next to other people.

The second thing is great organic and healthy wholefoods! I am strong believer in the power of diet, and think so many people would be amazed by the power of healthy eating. I enjoy making delicious, healthy, fresh meals! YUMMY

2. Pedicure or Manicure?
Pedicure for me. I love manicures, but they never last, so I always feel like it’s a waste of money.

3. Tea or Coffee?
I love coffee, but don’t drink it anymore, so have moved 100% tea. I love green tea, rooibos tea, and decaf chai. I also enjoy specialty blended teas, especially the one that my sis-in-law gave me!

4. A night out or a night in?
Depends on the night… I do love movie nights on the couch with my hubby, but also enjoy a nice evening out. It really depends on the week.

 5. What is your favorite holiday and why?
Christmas! I love decorating my house, our annual Christmas party, sending our cards, sharing time with friends and family! It’s just a beautiful season.

6. Road trip or airplane?
Airplane – I grew up with two parents who worked in the airline industry and rarely drove anywhere, so I would easily choose flying if given the chance. We typically drive to visit family because we don’t want to leave Kahli behind.

7. Vacation: full of activity or lounging around?
Depends on the vacation. If I am at the beach, then I enjoy lounging. If the vacation is more about adventure, then I enjoy planned activities, especially guided tours.

8. Favorite toothpaste?  (Cinnamon, striped, natural, etc)
All natural for me

9. What is your favorite season?
Autumn! I love the changing leaves and the beautiful crisp weather.

10. Chocolate or Vanilla?
Dark chocolate with almonds! Delish

11. What’s your favorite home remedy and what is it for?
I suffer from migraines, and I hate taking medicine, so I tend to use lavender and/or drink a strong cup of coffee. If those don’t work, I lay down with an ice pack over my eyes and my lavender-scented neck wrap around my neck.
