18 Weeks (in my 5th month!!)

18 weeks! YAY! I used my doppler a couple nights ago and again heard the beautiful heartbeat of our little Baby W. Honestly, I could listen to it everyday — I just love the fast heart thumping sound and knowing that our baby is thriving in my belly! Speaking of my belly, it’s definitely growing — I honestly didn’t think I would show this much so early. I keep telling myself that it means that Baby W is growing healthily in there, so it makes me happy!

My nausea has pretty much gone away, which is a huge relief. The biggest challenge right now is heartburn! No matter what I eat it plagues me through most of the day. I can typically deal with it, but at night, I rely on Tums to help me sleep. I am doing my best to avoid foods that trigger the pain, but honestly almost everything I eat triggers it, so it’s not that easy to just avoid food. LOL.

I am not-so-patiently waiting our 20-week appointment — it’s still over 2 weeks away! Ugh… During that appointment, we have our in-depth ultrasound and we will find out the gender of our little person. I can’t wait! The in-depth ultrasound also provides many pics of our baby, and checks its major organs to make sure they are developing correctly. It will be an exciting day! At this point, I am think our baby is a boy, but most of my family is voting girl! I guess we’ll just have to wait until 9/17 to find out 🙂

My mom came in town yesterday – yay! We are heading to my brother’s fiance’s bridal shower in TN, so we have a good amount of driving ahead of us. One of my best friends is joining us, and I know we’ll have a FABULOUS TIME! I love celebrating LOVE! I hope you all have a wonderful and very safe Labor Day Weekend!

4 Months!

Baby W is 16 weeks old today — 4 months!!! S/he is the size of an avocado — one of my favorite fruits! Time is literally flying by, which I love, because every day that goes by is one day closer to meeting our beautiful baby!!! 🙂

We have our 4 month check-up on Monday, which includes a weigh-in, urine test, blood work, and a quick visit with the doctor. The blood test will check our risk for spina bifida and the doctor will check the location of my uterus to make sure it is growing as expected. I wish they would do an ultrasound, but we have to wait until our next prenatal appointment to see Baby W again. Our next appointment — anytime between 18 and 20 weeks — is the BIG appointment in which we find out Baby W’s gender — I can’t wait! I have no inkling to what we’re having, but my acupuncturist thinks Baby W is a boy, and my brother and his fiance voting girl. I just want to have a healthy baby, and will be very happy with either pink or blue.

I am feeling great! My nausea has basically disappeared and, although, I get tired by the end of the day, I feel pretty awake most of the day. My tummy is growing beautifully and I am wearing mostly yoga pants, comfy dresses, and maternity clothes at this point. Also, we used our doppler, and I was lucky enough to find Baby W’s beautiful heartbeat. I ran to get hubby so he could hear it, and our Baby decided to hide from the sound waves, so while he was able to hear the placenta swooshing around, he missed out on the heartbeat. We will try again soon, and try to record it so everyone can hear it!

I am still having some weird cravings — mainly sour cream and nachos. I try to avoid them, but I do give in every few weeks. Interestingly enough, I am not craving sugar at all, but love salt. I am also always thirsty, which means I spend a lot of time in the bathroom. I have also increased my activity level — trying to walk at least 45 minutes everyday.

Have a great day, all!

I am not trying to make a political statement, but am disgusted with any politician who’s this interested in my uterus. I just don’t understand why people use the bible to diminish women’s rights, whether it be the right to take birth control or to take away our reproductive rights.

Not-So-Fertile Girl: Finally a Family

I’m not here to make a political statement to anyone. I have strong opinions based on education, information, and my values. However, politics is a touchy subject, and I don’t want to alienate anyone.

But I can’t let this pass without sharing the information. It’s too important. It’s something I just can’t quite believe is being discussed in a real discussion in America in 2012. But it is.

Vote for who you feel is right, but please, please know who you are or are not voting for and why.

As someone who may have to one day rely on IVF through no fault of my own other than genetics to have children, someone who wants nothing more than anything to be half of a fantastic, loving set of parents, and someone knows that so many of you…

13 weeks, 5 days!

13 weeks+ pregnant — so very happy, thankful, and grateful! I feel good — still have bouts of nausea and exhaustion, but they are few and far between in comparison to early pregnancy. I was worn out last weekend from a long week of work and driving to and from Northern VA for a conference, so took a wonderful nap on Saturday and relaxed most of the day. We also went to the movies to see Batman 😉

We also started telling grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins this week. Our parents, brothers, sisters, and close friends already know and have followed and supported us throughout our IVF journey, which has been amazing. Even though so many people know, it’s still so exciting to share our wonderful news — it’s a bit surreal to say the words “I’m pregnant” out loud, but I love saying it! We haven’t posted anything to Facebook yet, but I think we will soon.

My belly is also starting to grow – it’s so weird to have belly! I have always worked out so hard to have a flat tummy, and now I just love watching my belly grow! I feel like my bump is so obvious, but I can still hide it a little bit with the right clothing. To be honest, I love showing it off to the world :-).
