27 1/2 Weeks!

I am 27 weeks and 4 days pregnant today! I am still feeling pretty good, although my hip pain is getting more annoying and I am definitely not sleeping as well as I would like. Oh well, if these are the most annoying pregnancy issues, then I am pretty lucky :).

Last week was crazy. As most of you know, we had an awful hurricane hit the northeastern part of the US. Thankfully, we were spared from damage and miraculously didn’t even lose power! Many of our NJ friends lost power, but almost everyone has regained it, and no one had any major damage to their houses. It was definitely a crazy storm, and the devastation just north of where we live is quite remarkable. It saddens me to know that so many people lost their homes (or much worse) and still don’t have power. Sadly, another big storm is heading our way and temperatures are beginning to dip into the high 20s/low 30s at night. I want to help, but I always feel like there is so little that I can do. Other than donating money, food, and clothes, I feel like there is very little that I can do — ugh. Praying for a speedy recovery, and hoping that this next storm takes it easy on this region.

On the bright side, I had a great birthday weekend! My hubby made it special like he always does! We went out to a nice dinner on Friday night, and he made me breakfast on Saturday morning. We then went shopping and he bought me a cute maternity outfit for my shower on Saturday! I really like it, and can’t wait to wear it and feel fashionable again :). Saturday night, we met two of our best friends out for dinner at my favorite restaurant! The food was great, and the company was even better! I am very fortunate to have such a loving and supportive life partner, and so many amazing friends! Lucky me… On Sunday, we watched football and spent some quality time with good friends we haven’t seen in a while. They have the cutest 2-year old little girl, so we spent the afternoon playing with her and catching up on life. It was a nice break from our very busy lives.

This morning, I had my 28 week appointment and my glucose-tolerance test. I woke up pretty early, ate a healthy breakfast, and walked for a bit on the treadmill before drinking the red sugary drink (yuck). When I got to the doctor, I had my blood drawn for a variety of fun tests including a test to check how my body reacted to the gobs of sugar I had to drink an hour earlier. Hopefully the results will be good – I should know by the end of the week. I also had my regular check-up — Baby W’s heartbeat sounds good and I am measuring perfectly! Yay! I met with a different doctor this time, and I really didn’t like her. She wasn’t very friendly, and gave me a really hard time about my weight gain to this point. I told her that I have been eating healthy, working out, and doing my best to gain slowly, but she was very cranky with me. I have intentionally not been tracking my weight — I don’t want to become obsessive about it — but she didn’t seem to care. She also told me that I might be anemic, which is the first I have ever heard that, although apparently my blood work from weeks ago show that I was borderline… Blah… Anyway, I really hope that she isn’t the doctor on call when I go into labor; I was not impressed by her bedside manner, and really disliked her nonchalant attitude about test results. I go back to the doctor in 2 weeks for my 30 week appointment — YAY!!! It’s amazing how quickly time is flying :).

Even happier news, I have my baby shower this weekend!! I am so excited to see friends and family, and, of course, to spend time celebrating our little boy! I will definitely post pictures and have a full update next week!
Until then, take care everyone!

26 weeks!

Today is Baby W’s 26 week birthday! Time is moving very quickly, and I am feeling great :). I have been focusing on eating a healthy diet and getting my walking in. I walked over 20 miles last week, and have clocked 15 miles so far this week. I can feel a big difference in my energy level and am sleeping much better. Since I am walking 3-6 miles a day, I am making sure to eat a little more and drink significantly more water everyday. I have also been stretching more, which has reduced my hip pains, and has helped me get more comfortable sleep. Thank goodness!

26 Weeks (14 to go)

Baby W is the size of a head of lettuce!

My major complaint still tends to be heartburn! It really does suck, and sneaks up when I least expect it. I have tried eating smaller meals, eliminating spicy food, and eating dinner at least 2 hours before bedtime, but very little works. The worst is when I wake up at 3am with awful heartburn. Thankfully, generic tums are still working to fend off the pain, but I would prefer to use something more natural to combat it. The midwife we met with during our last appointment suggested papaya, but I keep forgetting to pick it up at the store.

I also have plenty of great news to share. First, we chose our birth doula! I am very excited to work with her, and can’t wait for our first meeting to develop our birth plan. I know the birth plan is more of a guide and is tentative, since every labor is different, but having a plan will help me to feel more in control, and better about the whole thing. I have also started to research what I need to pack in my hospital bag. I am planning to get it together at the beginning of my third trimester in a few weeks – yay! I also love the idea of bringing the maternity nurses little gift bags, so I am going to begin brainstorming what can go in their little gift bags. At this point, I know they will include a copy of my birth plan, treats, and some baked goods.

Second, Baby W is kicking up a storm. He’s been kicking for a while now, but he’s picked up the pace considerably over the last few weeks. He really enjoys kicking early in the morning, around 5am or so. I guess it’s his way of preparing me for middle-of-the-night feedings :). I have to say feeling him kick is one of the most amazing things I have ever experienced.

Third, I am getting so excited for my baby shower! YAY! I am truly blessed to have amazing friends and family, and I can’t wait to spend time with everyone! Our families have been very generous — my parents are buying all of our cloth diapers, so we are set until Baby W is potty-trained! And, my in-laws just ordered our crib and crib mattress — yay!! So exciting :). I am so grateful for the love and generosity — thank you, thank you, thank you!

Finally, I am beginning our search for a nanny for when I return to work. As you may know, I am fortunate enough to work from home, so we are planning to keep Baby W home with me, and hire a nanny PT to help out while I am working.  There is still a lot of work to do on this front, but at least it’s started.

Hope you’re all having a great week!

Growing up so fast!

We had our 6 month check-up on Monday, and Baby W is doing great! His heartbeat was a little over 140 — it sounded beautiful! He was also measuring perfectly, so we are all good to go. I am also feeling Baby W move a lot more. He has some very active kicking episodes during the day! It’s amazing to see my belly move and actually feel him kick my hand on my stomach. We go back in 3 weeks (on 11/5) for our 7 month check-up, which includes a check for gestational diabetes. I have to drink a glucose-filled red drink 15-20 minutes before I get to the office, and upon arrival will have my blood drawn to check my sugar levels. The goal of the test is to see how well my body processes the sugary drink — if my blood sugar is too high, then I will have to undergo more tests to see if I actually have gestational diabetes. I am feeling good, eating healthy, and walking regularly, so I don’t think I’ll have any issues, but who knows?!?!

Speaking of walking, I got a new treadmill, and I love it! Hubby set it up downstairs, and I have made a little desk so I am able to work and walk. My goal is to walk 4-6 miles a day (1.5 to 3 or so hours). When I hit my goal, I have a lot more energy, and I know that I am doing what’s best for Baby W. Plus, it’s pretty easy to incorporate walking into my daily routine when I can easily work and walk, and later in the evening, I can also watch a little TV while exercising! I plan to keep up this routine when Baby W gets here. As he gets older, I can put him into the carrier and walk!  🙂

We also signed up for our birthing classes. It’s a 4-week class that starts on 11/27 and ends about a month before my due date. I can’t wait to learn more about the birthing process. I also need to sign up for the breastfeeding class and the infant basics class. I love going to classes, and am really looking forward to learning as much as possible before Baby W gets here. I am sure nothing will prepare us fully for his arrival, every little bit helps!

It’s hard to believe that we are already 1/2 through October! Time just keeps flying by. We have a very crazy couple of months ahead — I think every weekend is planned through Christmas! Maybe that’s why time is moving so quickly :). Also, on another exciting note, my amazing sister-in-law — N — and my best friends are planning my baby shower for November 10th. I am thrilled! I don’t know all the details, but I know a few — it’s going to be sports’ themed, and the invites were designed by a friend (who is a graphic designed) to look like a baseball ticket! I am lucky to have so many loving and caring friends — yay!

So many happy things to look forward to in the coming weeks! I am so fortunate 🙂

24 WEEKs — 6 months!!!

Hi All! We are in our 6th month :). Just typing that makes me so VERY happy! I feel great, and Baby W is growing quickly (well, at least my belly is, so I assume it’s because he is :)). One of the best parts of being 24 weeks pregnant is the pretty constant kicking that I can feel — so exciting! His kicks can now also be felt from the outside, which is just remarkable! I still suffer from annoying heartburn, but tums and ice cream do the trick! Besides that, I also have some hip pain — apparently so they can loosed allowing them to grow to accommodate Baby W’s growth.
We’ve had an exciting couple of weeks! First, my brother got married! YAY! We had such a wonderful time celebrating his marriage — it was great! He married one of the most wonderful women I know, so I am beyond thrilled for both of them. It was a tiring trip, but so worth it. We also got to visit with a lot of family, friends, and loved ones, which was a very  nice treat.

22 weeks, 4 days

Getting ready for the fun!

Next, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law are in town for a quick visit. We are having so much fun! They brought us such cute gifts for Baby W, including an adorable book (his very first one)! I am so exciting to read it to him for the first time. Yesterday, we went apple and pumpkin picking; I loved every second of the adventure! We picked just over 11 pounds of apple, and have since made homemade apple cider and a delicious apple pie. We also turned the pumpkin into a beautiful pumpkin pie with a scrumptious graham cracker crust. Yummy!

We also have a lot going on in the baby planning world. We have been interviewing doulas, and hope to have our choice narrowed down soon. I know that I want a very natural birth, and want to put myself in the best place possible to avoid pain medication and medical interventions. I know this is not everyone’s choice, but I have always wanted this. We are also beginning to dip our toes into figuring out daycare options. Since I work from home, I am leaning towards a nanny who works PT. I would prefer to have Baby W home with me for a bit, and then eventually go the more traditional day care route.

So much to do!

Hope you’re all well 🙂

Registering is exhausting!

Registering for Baby W was fun, but also a little overwhelming and a lot exhausting! Before our adventure began, I purchased Baby Bargains. It’s kind of like a registry bible – it reviews pretty much every brand of baby product, and helps to demystify the crazy list of things that you need when having a baby. It’s well-written and extensively reviews so many products. I’m glad that we did some research before yesterday, but I’ll admit, it was a bit overwhelming. I got hung up on making the ‘right’ decisions, which almost made me crazy when trying to decide on the ‘perfect stroller.’ I literally spent hours reading reviews and comparing prices – ugh! In the end, trying them at the store was quite helpful. We decided to go with a Graco Travel System – it comes with the top-rated car seat for safety, and the stroller is easy to fold with one hand, fits in my trunk, and isn’t too heavy. It also has some other nice features and a cute elephant design. I am sure Baby W will like it. LOL

We decided on a sports’ theme for the nursery –it’s going to be so cute! We have some painting to do, and then I can focus on decorating the room. We found really cute bedding, and I have a lot of great ideas for decor — I have found a lot of great ideas on Pinterest! So much fun!

I also finally decided on cloth diapers — the BumGenius 4.0. They are highly-rated and fit babies from 7 to 40lbs (we can use these diapers until Baby W is potty trained)! They are also an all-in-one, so there aren’t any pins or multiple pieces to worry about — it’s basically a diaper that can be washed and reused! Since, I don’t think it make much sense to buy newborn cloth diapers, we are going to use disposable for the first few weeks to allow Baby W’s belly button to heal. There are a lot of cute colors and patterns — I am so excited to use them!

Registering is all done! I am sure we added too many things to the list, but I am sure that’s somewhat normal for first-time parents.

Have a great week, everyone!

It’s a BOY!

Appointment went very well! Baby W is measuring perfectly — everything is in the normal range!! And, our due date is still end of January 🙂

Girl or Boy? (One week countdown!)

I am almost 20 weeks pregnant! YAY!!! In one week, we head back to the doctor for our monthly check-up and for our in-depth ultrasound. During this scan not only do we find out the gender of Baby W (let the shopping begin!), but  we also get to make sure that everything is developing well and make sure our due date still makes sense. I am feeling really good (and really hungry), and my belly seems to be growing the right amount every week! I am also starting to feel some movement, which is amazing! Some days I feel more than others — it’s a hard feeling to explain, but it’s so amazing to feel Baby W swimming around. I can’t wait until his/her movements are stronger and I feel them more often.

The last week has been very busy! I spent Labor Day weekend in Knoxville with my mom, one of my best friends, and my soon-to-be-sister in law and her friends and family to celebrate my brother’s upcoming nuptials! The bridal shower was a lot of fun as was the bachelorette party. We got home early Monday, and I basically slept all day to recover. We decided to drive — almost 30 hours round trip — and I was exhausted. To say the least, I will be flying to the wedding in a few weeks! Work has also been a bit crazy — nothing too awful, just very busy!

Last night, my hubby surprised me with an amazing gift! We are heading to Chicago on Friday to go to a Cubs game at Wrigley Field!!! AHHHH, I am ecstatic! I love Chicago, and am a HUGE Cubs fan, but have never actually watched a game from inside the stadium. That will all change this Saturday — GO CUBBIES! We are also planning to eat dinner at a restaurant with an acclaimed chef who was just featured on (and actually beat) The Iron Chef. It’s going to be a great weekend 🙂

So, what do you think, is Baby W going to be adorned in Blue or Pink? I am leaning toward Blue, but most of my family is leaning in the other direction. Let the one week countdown begin!

18 Weeks (in my 5th month!!)

18 weeks! YAY! I used my doppler a couple nights ago and again heard the beautiful heartbeat of our little Baby W. Honestly, I could listen to it everyday — I just love the fast heart thumping sound and knowing that our baby is thriving in my belly! Speaking of my belly, it’s definitely growing — I honestly didn’t think I would show this much so early. I keep telling myself that it means that Baby W is growing healthily in there, so it makes me happy!

My nausea has pretty much gone away, which is a huge relief. The biggest challenge right now is heartburn! No matter what I eat it plagues me through most of the day. I can typically deal with it, but at night, I rely on Tums to help me sleep. I am doing my best to avoid foods that trigger the pain, but honestly almost everything I eat triggers it, so it’s not that easy to just avoid food. LOL.

I am not-so-patiently waiting our 20-week appointment — it’s still over 2 weeks away! Ugh… During that appointment, we have our in-depth ultrasound and we will find out the gender of our little person. I can’t wait! The in-depth ultrasound also provides many pics of our baby, and checks its major organs to make sure they are developing correctly. It will be an exciting day! At this point, I am think our baby is a boy, but most of my family is voting girl! I guess we’ll just have to wait until 9/17 to find out 🙂

My mom came in town yesterday – yay! We are heading to my brother’s fiance’s bridal shower in TN, so we have a good amount of driving ahead of us. One of my best friends is joining us, and I know we’ll have a FABULOUS TIME! I love celebrating LOVE! I hope you all have a wonderful and very safe Labor Day Weekend!
Baby Dust!

4 Months!

Baby W is 16 weeks old today — 4 months!!! S/he is the size of an avocado — one of my favorite fruits! Time is literally flying by, which I love, because every day that goes by is one day closer to meeting our beautiful baby!!! 🙂

We have our 4 month check-up on Monday, which includes a weigh-in, urine test, blood work, and a quick visit with the doctor. The blood test will check our risk for spina bifida and the doctor will check the location of my uterus to make sure it is growing as expected. I wish they would do an ultrasound, but we have to wait until our next prenatal appointment to see Baby W again. Our next appointment — anytime between 18 and 20 weeks — is the BIG appointment in which we find out Baby W’s gender — I can’t wait! I have no inkling to what we’re having, but my acupuncturist thinks Baby W is a boy, and my brother and his fiance voting girl. I just want to have a healthy baby, and will be very happy with either pink or blue.

I am feeling great! My nausea has basically disappeared and, although, I get tired by the end of the day, I feel pretty awake most of the day. My tummy is growing beautifully and I am wearing mostly yoga pants, comfy dresses, and maternity clothes at this point. Also, we used our doppler, and I was lucky enough to find Baby W’s beautiful heartbeat. I ran to get hubby so he could hear it, and our Baby decided to hide from the sound waves, so while he was able to hear the placenta swooshing around, he missed out on the heartbeat. We will try again soon, and try to record it so everyone can hear it!

I am still having some weird cravings — mainly sour cream and nachos. I try to avoid them, but I do give in every few weeks. Interestingly enough, I am not craving sugar at all, but love salt. I am also always thirsty, which means I spend a lot of time in the bathroom. I have also increased my activity level — trying to walk at least 45 minutes everyday.

Have a great day, all!
